By the grace of God our Parish School of Religion is once again open. Our catechists have been working very hard and with great enthusiasm to ensure that the Good News of Jesus Christ is passed forward to all our children. As so many challenges are presented to our young children in today’s world, it is so important that they are grounded in their faith and family.
As parents, grandparents, or guardians, we have all noticed how small the world of a child is. Kids see everything from their vantage point, focusing on how situations affect them. It is only as they mature that they begin to see the world as much bigger. One of our roles is to lead our children away from self-centeredness and to a self-giving spirituality.
And while today’s culture is telling our children that life is “all about me,” we can teach them to recognize that life is really “all about God.” There is a big story here – a grand narrative weaving throughout history and we are all a part of it. We can help our children get a glimpse of the wonder of this bigger story and we can help them recognize that God has a chosen a role for each of them.
I pray that all the children of our parish have an opportunity to experience our wonderful school of religion and find their place and calling in the plans that God has for them.
