Joseph Spurio is the Director of Music Ministry at St. Patrick’s Church. He is from Hubbard, Ohio and a long-time member of the Parish. After graduating from Hubbard High School in 2013, Joseph went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Westminster College. In 2017, he was hired as the Director of Choral Activities for grades 4-12 at Campbell City School District in Campbell, Ohio where he taught until recently. He is now pursuing his Masters Degree as the Graduate Assistant of Choral Conducting Studies at Youngstown State University where he will be working closely under Dr. Hae-Jong Lee. In his time as director at Campbell, the Campbell Memorial High School Singers were featured ensembles on various college concerts such as Thiel College, Youngstown State University, and Slippery Rock University and developed a reputation for excellence throughout the community.
Joseph also has experience directing church choirs throughout Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. In the fall of 2019, he was selected to be the guest director for the centennial anniversary Mass at St. John the Baptist Church in Campbell, Ohio. His responsibilities included selecting and distributing music to singers across the Mahoning Valley; coordinating rehearsals with soloists, ensemble members, accompanists, and guest musicians; and rehearsing and directing selected music. Joseph also has sung as a tenor and performed duties of an Interim/Assistant Director at Sharon First Presbyterian Church in Sharon, Pennsylvania. He has performed special music at multiple other churches throughout the area as well. Outside of church work, Joseph acts as the Assistant Director to the Shenango Valley Chorale, sings with the Stambaugh Chorus of Youngstown, Ohio, and teaches private voice and piano lessons.
