In the very popular hymn, We Are Many Parts, by Marty Haugen, I could not help but be moved by the lyrics, as I reflected on this year’s Lenten Fish Dinners and the people of our parish that made it a great success. I would like to share the words of the refrain below:
“We are many parts; We are all one body
And the gifts we have are given to share.
May the Spirit of love, make us one indeed
One, the love that we share;
One, our hope in despair;
One, the Cross that we bear.”
This year’s Lenten Fish Dinners were a huge undertaking. We served almost seven dinners every minute and profited nearly $35,000! The work began days before the dinners were served. We prepared the fish, prepared the side dishes, rolled silverware, set tables and much, much more. The success of this year’s dinners was due in a large part to the hundreds of people that attended the dinners but also to the wonderful and generous people of our parish that worked for days making sure our Fish Dinner was the best in the area…and it was the best!
We were truly many parts that formed one body, the Mystical Body of Christ. Each of us shared our talents that God has given to us and the spirit of love truly made us one indeed.
God bless and thank you,
Deacon John
