Growing up in a family with a military father and a mother that is a nurse, respect and kindness were inborn. Giving of my time, talent and treasure, has continually strengthened my relationship with God and my family.
I have been a member of St. Patrick Church since the day I arrived into this world. My Catholic education began at Villa Maria Teresa preschool, then St. Patrick School, Hubbard. This education continued to reinforce the concepts of kindness and giving, from a very young age.
My grandmother, who fostered children, had the philosophy of: “keep children occupied, keep them on a positive path.” My sisters and I were involved in Dance, Sports, Girl Scouts, 4-H, Band, Choir, and Community Service, with our Catholic faith at the foundation of all of it. We volunteered at food drives, collected coats, made blankets for nursing homes, and worked at St. Vincent DePaul Society. I really enjoyed working at our Church Festivals and Fish Fry Dinners during Lent. We loved to shop for gifts for “The Gift Giving Trees” at Christmas and Easter and sing Christmas Carols at the Senior Citizen Home in Hubbard.
Currently, as a High School Senior, I was voted class Treasurer, and I am the President of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). This position allows me to encourage other students to be kind and respectful, as my faith and family have taught me. We put a strong emphasis on anti-bullying, and try to intervene anytime we witness bullying behaviors. I obtained a Certification as an Eucharistic Minister, and enjoy participating in Mass. I will graduate from Trumbull Career and Technical Center (TCTC), as a Dental Assistant. I plan to continue my education, and become a Dental Hygienist.
My strong faith in God and family support, continues to give me the strength and encouragement to pursue these goals. I am grateful, everyday, for the strong faith-filled foundation I was given, at St. Patrick School and Church.
God’s Blessings to you all,
Mary Lyons
