Children can teach us volumes about stewardship while spreading the Good News through their actions. I witness this in my 3rd grade PSR class as the students eagerly write kind acts they did during the week which then become links in the class’s “Good Deed Chain.” I have also seen this as children gather with the Shine ministry, having fun together while making cards, treat bags, and placemats, or ringing the Salvation Army bell. Their numerous good deeds bring Christ’s love and joy to neighbors everywhere.
The desire the children of our St. Patrick family have to follow Jesus’ ways…to love, to forgive, to pray, to be a friend, to help…is what we’re all called to do. These young stewards choose to do what is good and right, not for praise or recognition or credit, but because this is what Jesus teaches. As we learn about stewardship through the children’s acts of kindness and loving hearts, we need to follow their example of walking beside Jesus with childlike faith and humility.
God bless the children of our parish, the humble, loving stewards who are the future Church.
“Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.” Matthew 18:4
