St. Anthony of Padua Novena/Mass
Begins Tuesday, March 20, 2018
St. Anthony was known in his short but quite memorable life as an eloquent speaker whose sermons defending the truths of the Catholic Church strengthened countless people in their faith. He became celebrated throughout France and Italy and was known as the “hammer of heretics.”
St. Anthony’s impact was such that he was canonized as a saint only a year after his death by Pope Gregory IX in 1232! He is revered today as a patron saint of, among others, the poor, travelers, and, most famously, those looking for missing items. His feast day is June 13th.
The novena to St. Anthony reminds us of the most important thing we should never lose: our faith! May he inspire you never to lose heart as well in the saving power of God’s love and grace, especially in difficult times!
Every Tuesday from March 20-June 12 the St. Anthony Novena will be prayed in church following 8:30 am Mass. For the 13 weeks of the novena there will be Mass offered instead of Liturgy of the Word with Holy Communion.

A Beloved Saint’s Relics Visit St. Patrick Church
Monday, June 11, 2018-Veneration begins at 3pm, Holy Mass at 6:30 pm
The Franciscan Friars from Padua, Italy, invite you to join them in welcoming Saint Anthony of Padua to Hubbard Saint Patrick Catholic Church. St. Anthony will be visiting us in the form of “two precious and first class” relics from the Pontifical Basilica in Padua, Italy.
The relics will be accompanied by Fr. Mario Conte, a Franciscan Friar from Padua, Italy, where the Saint is buried. According to Fr. Conte “There is nothing superstitious about relics. The real meaning of a relic is love–they are a link of love between the person who venerates and the saint.” St. Anthony intercedes with those trying to find a job, housing, faith, love, hope, harmony within the family, good health, peace of mind and mercy. Pope Benedict Emeritus said of relics “By inviting us to venerate the mortal remains of the martyrs and saints, the Church does not forget that, in the end, these are indeed just human bones, but they are bones that belonged to individuals touched by the living power of God. The relics of the saints are traces of that invisible but real presence which sheds light upon the shadows of the world and reveals the Kingdom of Heaven in our midst.”
Those who come to the veneration and Mass will have the opportunity to write a prayer of petition that will be placed by Fr. Conte at the tomb of Saint Anthony when he returns to Italy where the Friars will gather to pray for the saint’s intercession upon our intentions and prayers.
