ALTAR SERVERS SCHEDULE |
|
 |
The primary role of the altar server is to assist the priest in the celebration of the liturgy during Mass. This is done through specific actions and by setting an example to the congregation by active participation in the liturgy (hymns, responses, etc.), by 'looking alert' and by sitting or standing at the appropriate times.
If you cannot serve at the Mass you are scheduled for, please, find a substitute! If all else fails, please call the Rectory to let us know. Thank you for all you do to make Mass so beautiful!
Please encourage your friends to join you in being an Altar Server at Mass!

| FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS |
WHAT DO WE DO?
Altar servers assist the Priest in the celebration of the Mass so the liturgy can be conducted with grace and reverence. We assist the celebrant at the chair and at the altar by setting the altar, lighting the candles, carrying the processional cross, carrying the incense, holding the books, and a variety of other tasks during the service. We do this by performing our duties with honor and respect, reflecting the true presence of Christ at the Mass.
This ministry helps to develop a sense of participation in parish life and a love for the church's liturgical life, while growing closer to God in one's own life. It also offers an opportunity to understand the rewards of service toward others and their community.
|
|
WHEN DO WE DO IT?
The Altar Servers assist primarily at weekend and Holy Day Masses. We occasionally serve at weddings, funerals, missions, and other special liturgies.
|
|
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
The ministry is open to all interested students - male or female - 4 - 8 and high school age, who would like to help enhance the worship of our faith community.

PRAYER FOR AN ALTAR SERVER
O God, You have graciously called me
to serve You upon Your altar.
Grant me the graces that I need
to serve You faithfully and wholeheartedly.
Grant too that while serving You,
may I follow the examples of St. Tarcisius,
who died protecting the Eucharist,
and walk the same path that led him to Heaven.
