LITURGICAL MINISTRIES |
|
 |
Worship Ministry involves individuals and groups who strive to create good liturgy and other opportunities for prayer. The focus of this ministry includes parish liturgy, sacramental celebrations, devotional prayers and services, and setting the environment for meaningful worship. This ministry includes the study and implementation of the Church's liturgical documents and is guided by the liturgical calendar.
WORSHIP MINISTRY is comprised of the following ministries: |
ALTAR SERVERS
|
Altar servers assist the Priest in the celebration of the Mass so the liturgy can be conducted with grace and reverence. We assist the celebrant at the chair and at the altar by setting the altar, lighting the candles, carrying the processional cross, carrying the incense, holding the books, and a variety of other tasks during the service. We do this by performing our duties with honor and respect, reflecting the true presence of Christ at the Mass.
This ministry helps to develop a sense of participation in parish life and a love for the church's liturgical life, while growing closer to God in one's own life. It also offers an opportunity to understand the rewards of service toward others and their community.
Altar Servers are Boys and girls in grades 4 - 8 and high school age. Check the website to see the current schedule for altar servers.
Training: Sessions for new servers and refresher training are scheduled periodically as needed.

CHILDREN'S LITURGY
OF THE WORD
 |
The Holy Spirit is present in and works through children as well as adults. Children's Liturgy of the Word enables children to better participate in and experience the Liturgy by proclaiming the Sunday Readings in language that is easy for children to understand. All children ages 5 and older are invited to participate. Younger children are welcome when accompanied by a parent or older sibling. The leaders and assistants are trained and commissioned and must comply with the Child Protection Policy of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Youngstown. Schedules for leaders and assistants are prepared quarterly.
Schedule: Offered most Sundays throughout the year at the 9:30 and 11:30 AM Masses.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS
|
These trained lay ministers assist in the distribution of Holy Communion at liturgical celebrations. Since they are extra-ordinary ministers to the celebrant, they must participate in a training process and be commissioned by the Pastor for this service. Confirmed youth ages 16 and older are also eligible to be commissioned for this ministry. Schedules are prepared and distributed quarterly. Check the website to see the current schedule.
Training: Sessions for new Extra-ordinary Ministers and refresher training are scheduled periodically as needed.

LAY LEADERS OF PRAYER
 |
A Leader of Prayer is a lay person commissioned to lead the faithful in acts of worship which in the past were often led by ordained clergy but which are not reserved exclusively to them. The formation for this ministry consists of an eight-week series conducted by the Diocese. The course addresses the verbal and non-verbal elements of presiding at prayer as well as the structure of the various forms of prayer she (he) may be called upon to lead. Upon the recommendation of the Pastor, these lay members are formally trained and commissioned to lead the assembly at various services throughout the year. These para-liturgical celebrations may include Liturgy of the Word and Communion, the Church's Morning and Evening Prayer services, Stations of the Cross, and various other celebrations as requested.
Training: Diocesan formation classes are offered annually, beginning each fall.

LECTORS
 |
Lectors proclaim the WORD of God at various parish liturgies and prayer services. They also make announcements prior to Mass, carry and display the Book of the Gospels in the entrance procession, and lead the Prayer of the Faithful. Individuals with the gift of "proclamation" are trained for this ministry; youth who are confirmed are also invited to serve as Lectors. Lectors spend time in preparation with the Scripture readings before their service at a scheduled liturgy and are encouraged to participate in on-going scripture study and reflection. Schedules are prepared and distributed quarterly.
Training: Training for new Lectors and refresher training are scheduled periodically as needed

LITURGICAL ENVIRONMENT
 |
The purpose of the Environment Committee is to create an environment which will enhance the worship of our parish community. They are available to prepare the church and our worship space for the liturgical seasons and special feasts throughout the year. Members are encouraged to be familiar with the Church's document "Environment and Art in Worship" as well as the "General Instruction for the Liturgy". While we are always seeking people of vision, we also welcome those extra hands - artistic or not - to carry out that vision, creating an effective spiritual atmosphere.
Meetings: No regular meetings are required.
Members plan the environment for the various liturgical seasons and extend an open invitation to other parishioners to assist in decorating.
